Pam Wakefield

Who: Pamela Wakefield
What:
Applied Arts; Ceramics, Glass and Metals
Where:
Plymouth College of Art and Design

Interests:

My main interest is being creative! I love making things, designing things, giving things a new context or function. From a very young age I had a camera and began to photograph anything and everything. My mum taught me how to knit and I was encouraged to draw and paint by my child minder and teachers. I also love the outdoors, walking, climbing, running, etc.

In my spare time I really enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, watching him play football and challenging him to games of snooker.

University:

After completing my GCSEs and A levels at Launceston College I still wasn’t sure what subject to study at university. I applied to Newcastle to study Geography and also to Plymouth College of Art and Design to study a Diploma in Art and Design. As the time got closer to decide and with offers from both places I opted to do what I love and go down the art route. I did my one year course, moved away from home and passed with a distinction.

I now knew that I wanted to stay in the art sector as I loved the hands on approach to textiles. With this in mind I applied to Falmouth to do a Textile Design degree. I received an offer and really looked forward to starting my university life in September.

Unfortunately through summer some unforeseen circumstances had arisen and this caused me to look at universities closer to my boyfriend. I applied to Plymouth College of Art and Design to study a Foundation degree in Applied Arts; Glass, Ceramics and Metals.

I am nearly at the end of my first year loving my course and the student life that goes along with it. Although my route wasn’t very straight forward into higher education I’m glad I did it.
