Part-time student finance

You are still entitled to financial support.

As long as your course leads to a higher education qualification like a HNC or HND, a Foundation degree or Honours degree then you will be entitled to financial support.

You must be studying at least half of an equivalent full-time course, your course must be at least one year long and you must be studying for no more than eight years.

Below is a summary of what finanical help is available to you if you study part-time.

Tuition Fee Grant

• up to £1180 for entry in 2008

• non-repayable

• income assessed

This is a non-repayable grant to help with paying for your course fees.

How much you receive depends on;

1. your household income

2. what intensity or rate you study at (eg; do you study 50% of a full-time course or 75%?)

Course Grant

•  up to £255 for entry in 2008

• non-repayable

• income assessed

This is a non-repayable grant to help with costs related to your course like books and travel costs.

How much you receive depends on your household income. Not on the intensity or rate that you study at.

Disabled Students Allowance

• non-repayable

• non-income assessed

This is available if you are studying at the rate of at least half of a full-time course.

You may also be able to claim help as a disabled student from the Access to Learning Fund.

Access to Learning Fund

• non-repayable

As well as a fee grant and a course grant, you may be entitled to extra support from the Access to Learning Fund.

You apply for this help through your college or university. You can get money to help pay for things like childcare and books and equipment for your course.

Additional Fee Support Scheme

• non-repayable

Your university or college decides how much the tuition fees are for part-time courses; there is not a maximum amount like for full-time courses.

If you receive a fee grant that does not cover your course fees then you may be able to get extra money from your university or college through the Additional Fee Support Scheme.
