UCAS tariff

Computers
What is it?

The UCAS tariff is a points system that translates your previous qualifications and achievements into a score. Different HE courses require different point scores for entry.

Level 3 qualifications like A levels, BTEC Nationals and OCR Nationals all command points on the UCAS Tariff as do other qualifications like Key Skills. To see the latest UCAS tariff and for more information visit www.ucas.com/candq/tariff.

How does the tariff work?

  • Points can be totalled from the different qualifications included in the tariff.
  • There is no limit to the number of points which can be accumulated
  • There is no double counting - applicants cannot count the same or similar qualifications twice.
  • All certificated Key Skills in Application of Number, Communication and IT will attract points.

The UCAS Card

The UCAS card is free to all students in years 12 and 13 (or equivalent) in the UK. It allows you to access information about higher education. It also gives you discounts at major retailers and special discounts, games, news, music, film reviews and lots more.

UCAS will also send you monthly email bulletins which provide useful hints and tips to keep you on track with your UCAS application. They cover topics such as guidance on completing the UCAS application, the personal statement, choosing courses, interview tips, gap year research, living away from home and life as a student. As a UCAS card holder you will also have a year’s free subscription to the ‘You Can’ magazine.

To get a UCAS Card you need to register online at www.ucas.com/ucascard. You will need to find your school or college’s five-digit UCAS number through the search facility on the registration form.
