Applying for student finance

How you apply for student finance will depend on whether you are a

full-time student

part-time student

You can apply in a few different ways;

1. You can apply online at www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk

make sure you read through the PN1 guidance notes while you apply

2. You can download a PN1 form and guidance notes to print out and fill in at www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk

3. You can contact your Local Authority and ask for Form PN1 and accompanying guidance notes. Go to Peninsula Local Authorities for contact details for your local authority in the Peninsula area. If you live outside the Peninsula or you are unsure which is your local authority, go to Local Authority Finder and enter your postcode to find yours.

Make sure you return your completed form and supporting evidence to your local authority.

When to apply

How to apply

Information you will need to have when filling out the form;

• Your National Insurance Number

  • if you don’t have an NI number ring 0845 600 0643

• if you don’t know your NI number ring Inland Revenue on 0845 915 7006

• Your Birth Certificate or your passport

• Your sort code and bank account details

• Details on your course – if you have not received or accepted an offer yet use the details of your first choice

• Your household income per year if you are independent
